It's all about mechanics: QUARTZ watches are battery operated, with high-frequency vibrations that make them extremely accurate. AUTOMATIC watches need to be wound up and are dependent on you wearing them, otherwise they lose time. Plus, they're the green option as there is no need for a battery, DIGITAL watches are less expensive to manufacture and therefore cost less.
